Reyes, Bustamante ready for World 9-Ball Championship

Filipino cue masters Efren ‘Bata’ Reyes and Francisco ‘Django’ Bustamante are ready to plunge into action at the World Pool-Billiard Association (WPA) World 9-Ball Championship on June 22 to 29 at the Al Sadd St. Sports Roundabout in Doha, Qatar.
The 57-year-old Angeles City pride Reyes, a two-time world champion, is eyeing to become the first Filipino player to win a third world title.
Reyes and compatriot Ronato ‘Volcano’ Alcano have already won the World 8-Ball and World 9-Ball crowns.
Bustamante of Tarlac, 48, captured the World 9-Ball crown in Doha two-years ago following the feats of his fellow Filipino cue masters. Reyes won the title in 1999, in Cardiff, Wales, United Kingdom, Alex ‘The Lion’ Pagulayan followed suit in 2004 in Taiwan while Alcano did the same in Manila in 2006.
American Earl “The Pearl” Strickland is the winningest player in the tournament, winning the World 9-Ball crown thrice (1990 Bergheim, Germany, 1991 Las Vegas, and 2002, Cardiff, Wales, United Kingdom.
Japanese Yukio Akagariyama dethroned Alcano in the last edition of the tilt in Doha.
Up for grabs in the 2012 edition of the meet is a total cash prize of $250,000 with $36,000 going to the champion.
