TV5 Contract Prohibits Actress’ Miss World Bid

Miss World Philippines organizer Cory Quirino was ecstatic over the independent pageant’s partnership with TV5. Ironically, one of the network’s talents, Arci Muñoz had to withdraw her bid to join the contest even after she made it to the official 25 bets for this year’s beauty tilt.
Quirino, who is Chairperson of CQ Global Quest Inc. and Miss World Philippines, explained June 7 to the media how certain provisions in Muñoz’s contract had to be taken into account.
“Yes, Arci already made it to the official roster but her active and live TV contract with TV5 comes first. There are certain obligations she needed to prioritize for the network but that doesn’t mean she could not join in future Miss World Philippines contest anymore,” Quirino said during the media presentation of 2012’s candidates at the Manila Hotel.
The pageant organizer added, “Until that obligations have been fulfilled, she cannot join Miss World Philippines. Her contract will not allow her. She’s under contract and it’s a live contract.
She’s not only a talent, she’s a star of TV5.”
However, the pageant circuit is abuzz with online comments and opinions from local pageant industry followers and experts citing that Muñoz simply could not join Miss World Philippines because it will air on her home station.
“There are a number of blogs saying that she had to back out because other candidates might argue that in case she wins, it will be because she is a contract star of the network,” said a pageant reporter. He added that the actress’ pageant bid would have happened with ease if the Miss World Philippines partnered with a different network.

Quirino said that partnership with the Kapatid network allowed the organizers to travel around the country “in search of ladies who can best represent the Philippines and the Miss World cause.”
